Mario Lemieux Gloves
Photomatched
Real Jerseys

This is a pair of Mario Lemieux's 1988-89 photo-matched game worn Koho gloves. These gloves were worn for the entire 88-89 season.  They can be photo-matched to the start of the season, the all star game and through to the playoffs.  The gloves have fantastic wear with team repairs to the palms.  "66" written in faded black marker inside the cuffs of each glove.  Please see the last picture to see these exact gloves with the "66" written in marker inside the cuff.  You can see how it is in the same spot inside the cuff, is underlined, and is bleeding into the fabric.

There are also two other photo-matches for these gloves in the listing.  They are matched to Mario's first ever Sports Illustrated cover in Feb 1989.  The Pic was taken during the first half of the season.  You can clearly see the distinct burn mark just on the outside of the cuff (near the eyelets) on the right glove.  The gloves were new at the beginning of the year, so the white diamonds on the gloves were still crisp and new.  As the season went on, those white diamonds started to wear and fade.  The last photo-match was taken during the playoffs, you can see how the diamonds have faded.  Also, the burn mark on the right cuff that is matched to the SI cover......it is still there......along with a lot more wear on the gloves.  You can also see the repairs to the palms.  They were replaced over the season a few times.  The palms have no holes.  They have heavy black pilling inside the left palm from his black handle tape.  You can also match the glue residue on the fingers of the right glove.  I have circled it in the photo.

1988-89 was Mario Lemieux's best season in the NHL.  He recorded 199 points.  Very rarely would a superstar player such as Lemieux, wear one pair of gloves for the entire season.  A great item from one of Hockey's best of all time.
